My Poems
Getting By:
by Alyssa R
I am there in the back of the class,
only getting noticed by a single friend.
I stare out the little window of glass,
I'm trapped till bells say class has met its end.
Many quickly gather their books and other stuff,
but me, i slowly gather my own thoughts.
I tell them i'm fine so no one sees my bluff.
Because of this, my confidence slowly rots.
It's hard to win a forever long battle,
but it's not one you have to fight alone.
The bombs and explosions can make your core rattle.
If you stop; you'll realize that once, you've flown.
When things get hard, don't lay down to die,
I can tell from experience, you'll get by.
Catching Your Breath
I'm surrounded by people, but always alone.
There is no one to help me when I fall.
I feel like I'm fighting this battle on my own,
In a corner like a forgotten ball.
I smile and joke to act like I'm fine,
and what's sad is they believe I am.
We're all practically standing in a line,
waiting for the trigger and then bam.
You're tackled to the ground, pushed out of the way,
You landed on your back, your breath now gone.
You see blue skies and the butterflies play.
It's all so beautiful, then it goes black.
You shoot up in bed, scared half to death,
but now you at least know, you can catch your breath.
My Peace
I stare up at the beautiful blue skies,
and finally find my missing hope.
I find a perfect world where no one dies,
a world where i know everyone can cope.
I stare down at my paper and ink pen.
I look in awe at the magical words.
The lines of peace, the perfect ideal zen.
Like a nice breeze and bright colorful birds.
I look back down at my pen and writing,
wondering what it's like to be them.
They know what's good and hate all the fighting.
They know who they are but sometimes not then.
I want to be like the story heroes,
not in the background like the small zeros.
